Vacuuming
By: Corey Phelps  -  7/30/2010

Vacuuming cannot wear out your carpet, but soil can. Even with entry mats, eventually dirt and grit can become embedded in your carpet's fibers. When that happens, your carpet will become discolored and matted. Up to 80% of the soil in the carpet is of the dry particulate type that can be removed with a vacuum cleaner. Daily vacuuming is recommended for high-traffic areas. Make seven passes of the vacuum cleaner over each section of carpet. For light-traffic areas, vacuum weekly with three passes over each carpet section. The best vacuum for carpeted areas is one with a beater bar or rotating brush and powerful suction. Be sure to adjust the vacuum for the height of your carpet. Deep brush agitation may damage loop-pile Berber carpet. Also, check the vacuum bag regularly, and change it when it is half full for most effective cleaning. And remember to replace worn belts and brushes in the maintenance cycle recommended by your vacuum manufacturer.

Caring for your upholstery
By: Corey Phelps  -  4/2/2010

* Do not place the furniture in direct sunlight:
Sunlight's powerful ultraviolet rays will cause damage to your fabric over time.

* Rotate and reverse all of your loose cushions and pillows every 1 to 2 weeks:
All foam, no matter how good the grade, will begin to compress and lose some of its spring with continued use. Rotating the cushions ensures more even wear on all cushions. Vacuum the furinture every two weeeks for furniture which receives daily use.

* Have your upholstered items cleaned every few years:
Please don't attempt to dry-clean or wash your own seating unit; it requires the assistance of professional furniture cleaners. Do not remove cushion covers for separate dry-cleaning or washing, even though they may have zippers. Cushion covers also require cleaning by competent furinture professionals.

* Blot any spilled liquids immediately taking care that all liquid is absorbed.
Never rub the area!! Rubbing only force the spill deeper into the fabric. To prevent spreading, be sure to work from the outside of the area to the inside. Always following the cleaning procedure providedd by the furniture  manufacturer, when possible. Test any cleaning method in an inconspicious area to check for any dye bleed.

With just a little care and attention, your upholstered furniture will give you many years of service and enjoyment.
